How will Oakland's downtown resurgence respond to the needs of a diverse, transit oriented population?
This mixed use tower sits at one of downtown Oakland's most prominent corners, atop the Broadway + 19th st BART station. An historic brick structure anchors the intersection, repurposed for creative workplace with retail below.
The new structure includes 451 mostly smaller units of market rate housing, a ground floor restaurant, an entry plaza, and below grade parking. The overall mass of the tower is turned east / west to reduce solar gain, while presenting narrow, more elegant proportion to Broadway.
The facade is designed for cost effective, modular assembly and high performance thermal capability, while ensuring high visible light transmittance into the living spaces.
