PDA Port of Dalian, Liaonang, China
The historic Port of Dalian, China, held an international design competition to redevelop how the City meets the waterfront, re-purposing the existing bulk cargo piers and related structures. The winning entry and subsequent master plan envisions a new waterfront Eco District, with a mix of maritime and residential uses and ecological infrastructure, reconnecting to the city's downtown CBD.
Dalian’s Waterfront Eco-District will meet or exceed the goals of the city’s 12th Five Year Plan, with specific design and infrastructure to support a Green Dalian. At the community scale, this means a district created for a healthy lifestyle and a healthy economy.· A sense of place and recognisable identity, which embodies of Dalian’s leadership towards a sustainable future.
· A walkable, human scaled environment, connecting residents and visitors to the harbour and Dalian’s CBD.
· Development of “Eco Infrastructure” as a new model for Dalian’s growth.
· A wide range of residential dwellings to suit differing income and social environments.
· A commercial address which drives value, bringing employment to the District.
